April 14th - Loch Ness

This was the day involving the longest drive on our whole journey. We had to get from Ullapool to Oban; we decided against the single track roads along the coast, went back through Inverness to visit the nearby Urquardt Castle at Loch Ness...

Urquardt Castle or Loch Ness

Well, there has been much talk about Loch Ness, but the reality is just disappointing. Admitted, the views are great, the landscape beautiful, but compared to what we have seen in the North of Scotland, not that beautiful.
Urquardt Castle is very famous as well, but again some of the castles we have visited before were much nicer! Spoiled by the rough beauty of North-Scotland we left Loch Ness unsatisfied.

Dunstaffnage Castle

Our next short stop was at Dunstaffnage Castle, north of Oban, and, hidden in the woods, the Abbey...

Oban

We parked our car, knowing that we would not need it for the other day and checked in the hostel. All the bed had names, like Cindarella and Stepmother, and the room was nice and clean, more than what we had expected after Inverness. To be quite honest, we tried to find another B&B and to cancel our nights here, but didn't in the end and we did not regret it.
