April 12th - North Coast Drive

Dunnet Head

This second lighthouse we visited was again built by the Stephenson family. If you keep walking uphill, you have a wonderful 360-degree view toward the Orkney islands and the mainland. This part here is the most northerly point of the mainland. During WW II, bunkers have been erected to intercept marine signals.

Coastal Drive

The main route leading through the highlands offers amazing views, but can be quite tough. It is a single track route with lots of passing places, that's for sure, but there are too few spots where you actually are allowed to stop and enjoy the beauty and seclusion. Breathtaking were the small streets crossing rivers or Firths. Not to mention that we met sheeps all along the route...

We finally stopped at Tongue Bay to chill out (give my chauffeur a rest). Where could you better relax as on a beach, listening to the soothing sound of clashing waves?

Durness

For lunch we stopped at Durness and walked down to the caves where obviously a lot of bodies have been found, hidden by a serial killer.

Again, we found the closest beach and sat down for some more minutes...

Kinlochbervie

We arrived pretty early at our destination, so that we drove to the next sea to chill more hours. Having not celebrated Easter Sunday yet, we dined very well at the Old School Restaurant, before heading to bed.
